From the professional and amateur triathletes I know, I’ve recognized two outstanding abilities they share: 1.) Focus and persistence in training, and 2.) Detachment when relaxing. These two abilities, when harnessed and applied, are at the very core of their accomplishment – which is, completing outstanding feats of physical and mental endurance. However, harmonizing the perfect training schedule or that big race with work can pose a challenge for triathletes. To sustain their passion for traveling to races, arriving early to learn courses, enjoy the destinations, and repeating this lifestyle, most triathletes are forced to hold jobs. But what if you’d prefer to do your workout at 10am when the weather is just right? Doesn’t it feel like a tall order to force yourself into an office environment so much of the day, when it’s the road, the trail, the pool that you really want? For many triathletes, this is their story, and they feel cornered into the job world because they can’t support themselves financially from racing. Well, consider this…
To release the cornered feeling of needing a job, a solution can be found in an alternative strategy of network marketing. (Now I’m not talking about chasing your friends and family to become business partners. I’m talking about using proven marketing techniques, which bring people to you, that systematically grow your business.) In this approach, which partners you with a company, to become a reseller or referrer (“word-of-mouth”) of their products and services in exchange for a commission, your schedule runs free. Imagine for a minute you get to talk about what bike components and brands are your favorite. In turn you are compensated from those bike companies. Network marketing at its best is positioning yourself as an expert, and referring a product to people who are already looking for it. The beauty is that it can be done from the comfort of your yoga mat, kitchen counter, and personal home computer with no income limitations. The beginning step is finding a company that offers a product or service you believe in, closely followed by a fair compensation plan that rewards you for building an organization.
Triathlon requires long hours for training and many jobs will not cater to this lifestyle. A networking business from home will. When you travel to a race, a job will not follow you with a time card offering as many hours as you care to fit in. A networking business will. Many products and services that triathletes require can be found in network marketing such as: travel deals & accommodations, health care supplements, telephone services, and nutritional and other self care products.
Unfortunately, companies and the image of network marketing can be tarnished by over-eager distributors that make exaggerated or downright false product or income statements. Don’t let it get in your way, just be aware of it. Paired with a fair compensation plan, a quality product, focused training attention, and work ethic, network marketing is a great way for the passionate athlete to find financial support.
